Beat the Heat on the Course!
Know when to Swing & when to get out of the heat!
You sure can tell it is summer time in North Carolina, huh? It has been dangerously hot as of late! While it is great that the courses are in great shape and it stays lighter longer, you have to be careful out in the sun while playing a round. Here are some tips to avoid heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
1) Of course, drink lots of beverages. This means water and Gatorade, not alcohol!  Don’t wait until you are thirsty to get hydrated. Drink water before the round and at a good pace all day to keep your body temperature normal.
2) Eat fruit to get energy. Things like Bananas and apples are easy to carry in your golf bag and will give you long lasting energy while you golf.
3) Tip your hat! While hats can shade you, they can also make you hotter. Most of our heat comes off your head, so by taking your hat off, you actually can become cooler.
4) Wet Towels: Every time you pass a water cooler, dampen several towels so you can wrap around your neck or cool off your face.
Make sure you know the symptoms of heat exhaustion or even worse, heat stroke! Nausea, dizziness, headaches are common. Other warning signs are if your skin becomes pale even in the sun or muscles start to cramp up. If you experience any of these signs during your round, get inside immediately, drink lots of fluids and eat salty foods.
Heat stroke is much more serious. Symptoms of heat stroke include hot, dry skin with a grayish tint. Anyone suffering from heat stroke must be treated quickly. Immerse the victim in a cool water or ice bath and call 911 immediately.
Have fun and be safe…and enjoy the summer swings!

Golfapalooza This Week in Pinehurst!
Women golfers from around the country are descending upon Pinehurst this week! The EWGA Golfapalooza annual event takes place begining tomorrow, April 7th and lasting through the 10th of this week.
What an excellent week for women of all skill levels to come together and play during this beautiful time of year together. Amatures, Pros, and Golf Nuts of all ages that have the common affiliation of the Executive Womens Golfers Association will begin arriving in Pinehurst early this week to start prepping for the festivities. These business-women have come for fun this weekend in Pinehurst. What used to be called The EWGA Annual Conference was recently changed to what we know now as Golfapalooza. When Executive member Dianna Shwartz was asked why the odd change of name, the answer came up as, “why the heck not?”" We left the boys at home this week, and we’re here for fun” says another member attending this weeks events.
All folks in town this week will have the opportunity to visit with and play along side such LPGA pros as Annika Sorenstam, Suzann Pettersen and Kristy McPherson. These ladies are here for the fun too.
So it sounds like warm up rounds are suggested and after-hours are mandatory for this excellent week of play and social events.
To learn more about Golfapalooza visit www.ewga.com and check out the events page and plan to attend!
Villas at Forest Hills Enter the 2010 Parade of Homes
Well the time of year has come for the Moore County Parade of Homes. Sage Built has decided to enter its top product, the Citori, in the 2010 showcase. Builders from all over the county have been scrambling to complete final paint touch ups, adjust all of the cabinet knobs, and sweep the last little bit of dust under the mat to get thier homes prepared to be viewed by the 2010 MCHBA (Moore County Home Builders Association; www.mchba.com) panel of judges.
Judging for the homes took place today. The panel will spend generally 15-20 minutes in each home entered, taking notes and tallying scores, for what they may and may not like about a home. After all homes have been reviewed the judges reconvein back at HBA headquarters to tally the votes and decide a Gold, Silver, and Bronze winner for each category of home. Winners will be revealed to Sage Built and other local builders Thursday evening during the MCHBA’s preview night for the partnering Home and Garden Expo (http://www.mchba.com/events/home-garden-expo).
The Parade of Homes is really about the public though. It is a chance for people to view the product of local builders and an excellent opportunity for builders to showcase what it’s homes offers to potential buyers. We expect for the Villas to really stick out above the rest in the Pinehurst market. Sage Built is the only NAHB (National Association of Home Builders; www.nahbgreen.org) builder currently recognized under the NAHB Green Building Certification Program. We are building building truely Green Certified homes in the Village of Pinehurst and no other builder can say that. We not only have some of the most beautiful granite countertops, top of the line stainless steel Bosch appliances, and rustic wood plank flooring, but just like a well made Italian Sports Car, we consider our homes high performance. They have all the bells and whistles of any luxury home but they will stand the test of time and you are proven to live more comfortably and healthier in one of our homes.
The Event dates are for the public are Friday, March 5th – Sunday, March 7th and then again the following weekend, March 12th – March 14th. We hope while on your tour of the Moore County Parade of Homes that you will plan to stop in the Villas and take a look at our anticipated award winning Citori Model home nestled amongst 2 other amazing floor plans that will suit any homeowner’s wants and needs. Talk to an on site sales agent while you are there for all the details.
Go for the Gold, be happier and healthier, and live amongst the legends.
Warm Days and Friendly Folks
Sixty-some-odd degrees out today; “somebody pinch me, it’s January”, I thought to myself today. It was absolutely gorgeous outside on this January day. People out and about mingling, enjoying the weather, and playing lots of golf.
It was unfortunate that I had to work on this Monday because I would have loved to have been on that very same golf course that I had done a few slow laps by on the way in to the Village for lunch. I usually grab the quick sub or Chick-fil-a, located just down from the Villas, but it was just too nice out today. I had the opportunity to take the time to enjoy getting out and talking to some of the friendly people you run in to around the Village. You might not think it but you meet people from all over the world and from every walk of life in Pinehurst.
Eating in the Village is always a treat. The small town feel of downtown Pinehurst is one of the cozy settings in the south in my opinion. It is a great combination of little shops, family owned restaraunts, and world class food. Today I chose to eat at The Villager Deli. The Villager is classic mixture of American food that hit the spot on a warm day. Nestled right in heart of downtown it offers a historic setting with the family feel that makes it seem like your eating with folks you’ve known for years. It seemed like everyone else in the Villager today had the same idea. You could sense the up-beat feel of the people today. Men, women, and children of all ages were laughing over fries and ice cold Cokes, in the glass bottles no less. Sharing golfing stories seemed to be on the menu today. Some telling tall tales of incredible birdie shots and the old “one time I had a hole in one” story. Some were better than others needless to say.
It just seems like the warm days in the midst of cold winters always break up the monotony of being shut up in the house because it’s so cold outside. It brings the best out of people. It makes me want to hear stories, share opinions, and meet new people.
One could tell the difference around the Villas today too. For those who didn’t get a chance to get a round in today were either out walking the dog, doing some planting, or just soaking up some sunshine. The warm weather also seems to bring out peoples interests. The new units at the Villas are getting shown constantly. People are loving them! “The hardwoods are incredible, the countertops are gorgeous, and it’s been 68-70 degrees inside the whole time and I haven’t heard the HVAC units kick on once?’ are just a few of the comments I hear daily. I love explaining the inner workings of the Energy Star (www.energystar.gov) certifications and how the homes are the only nationally recognized Green Certified (www.nahbgreen.com) homes located in Pinehurst. Pretty cool stuff, or warm, well comfortable…
Whether you’re touring around the Village, on the 12th green, or strolling around the Villas on one of these warm winter days stop and take the time to sit down and eat a hearty lunch, tell a story to a friend, or shake a stranger’s hand.
Pro Shops Swing for Sales
How many of us have a sibling or a parent that is a pro golfer? Not many, but I know my dad likes to think  he is when he’s walking around town sporting his freshest Ping pullover and Titleist visor.
He was on my mind as I strolled through the Pro Shop (www.pinehurstproshop.com)at the Pinehurst Country Club today . What would the Ol’ Man like this year? What do you get a man that has it all? Then I thought to myself, “something on sale, cha ching!”
Pro shops located on the courses are well known for bringing top dollar for new golf clothing, sporting goods, and all other basic golfing necessities. However the size of the table of sale items I saw today would have made anyone think otherwise. The table contained everything from the tee to the putter. All of 2009’s latest golf fashions were on sale in a time of you would think of being able to bring a full price.
After a quick once over I had picked up a hat and 4 sleeves of assorted brands of golf balls for Dad. The perfect gift for a golfer of any skill level.
Knowing the history and living the pro tour life is not what giving the golfer in your family a gift related to the sport is about. I wouldn’t buy Gary Player a basketball though you know?. Get your loved one a hat, help them plan their next golfing outing, or a visit to the Pinehurst Resort for the weekend.
The Villas at Forest Hills are conveniently located only a few miles from the resort and sales on hats are great but if you’re looking for a deal you should skip the pro shop and visit our model home at the Villas. No sale table here but with the cost of a Membership included in the price of the home you won’t feel ripped off paying the price on the tag.
On your next golf outing to Pinehurst or next big wave surfing the net, visit a pro shop to check the sales and visit the Villas at Forest Hills to see your dreams.
Pinehurst Living, Golf, and More
People used to think of it as a place for old, retired families who wanted peace and quiet and golf. And while you can still find that tranquility here in Pinehurst, there’s so much more.
There are new restaurants, new shops and the old favorites are still here and are what make Pinehurst such a great place to live.
Â

Challenge Yourself!
Also, let’s not forget the golf. There are dozens of courses to play, so you’ll never get bored and there are always new offers and specials! And because the weather here is pretty temperate, it’s always a  good time for golf.
The Village of Pinehurst (www.villageofpinehurst.org ) has long been a sought after location for golfers, to live, work and retire. However, finding a house in the area has always been tough because they’re pricey, old and often need repairs, or there just aren’t any on the market because no one wants to leave! But now, with the new townhomes in Pinehurst, Villas at Forest Hills (www.VillasBySage.com) , there are great, new, affordable places to live inside the beautiful Village of Pinehurst. The first time you see these Pinehurst townhomes, you’ll think, These are amazing, there is no way they are that affordable!. Not only are they incredible on the inside, with tons of room, amazing appliances, and top of the line features they come with a MEMBERSHIP to the world renowned Pinehurst Country Club!
Another benefit is the neighborhood being created is one of a kind. I realize for some people sidewalks in a neighborhood are a given, but in all my years of running and walking dogs in Pinehurst, I can tell you that sidewalks in a new development is a huge deal, and the Villas have developed their neighborhood to include sidewalks on both sides of the street making this a completely pedestrian friendly neighborhood. It also helps connect it to the Lawn and Tennis Club, another small townhouse neighborhood, so for those of you who like to get out and walk – you’d be in the right place.
Â
Along the lines of convenience, the Villas are close to Pinecrest Plaza, and Fresh Market, where you can do all of your shopping – groceries, clothes, crafts, books … it’s all there.

Shopping, Dining, Entertainment, and More!
I sound like a cheerleader for the Villas, I realize that, but honestly, if you’re looking to move to Pinehurst, I really can’t think of a better place.
I mean what could be better than your own townhome in Pinehurst with all of the amenities of a house including huge bathrooms, incredible closet space, two-car garages, a beautifully landscaped yard (for which you don’t have to lift a finger), and close proximity to the amazing historic Village of Pinehurst and seconds away from all your shopping needs.
Did I mention that with the purchase of one of these amazing townhomes you get a membership to the coveted Pinehurst Country Club (www.Pinehurst.com)?
  Like I said … perfect!

The Seasons, They are a Changing
Great news for Golfers’ Wallets! This Sunday kicks of the Evergreen Season for Pinehurst Resort. This means the lowest rates by far for your round of golf. Pinehurst Country Club is kicking it off this Sunday with the $222 on No. 2. A round on Pinehurst No. 2, a room, and breakfast. Considering walk-on rate on No. 2 is $410, it’s quite the deal! Available 11/8/09 – 2/28/10 the rates change with the colder season but with the typcially warmer weather we’ve been having lately here in the Carolinas, why not a better time for a early break on the ol’ bill fold. Come down, check out the course for the evening, and stop in by the Villas on your way back out of town. The five units currently under construction are so close to being done! Happy Evergreen Season golfers!
